Inner Dialogue

Background

Below the deliberative chatter, another response system is faster and less argumentative. Ask an honest question, wait without answering yourself, and something replies. The first reply is usually simpler, cleaner, and more morally direct than what the conditioned self proposes next. This practice trains the ratio: honest asking, patient listening, and trust in the first true answer.

Turn inward and speak directly to the part of you that knows before you think. Ask a question in your mind and wait for an answer.

The Practice

  1. 01

Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Take a few slow breaths.

  2. 02

Ask a real question inwardly. ‘What do I actually want right now?’ or ‘What am I avoiding?’

  3. 03

Wait. Do not answer for yourself.

  4. 04

When a response arises, notice it without editing. It may come as a word, an image, or a felt sense.

  5. 05

Ask a follow-up. The more questions, the quicker the answers arrive.

  6. 06

If a response feels simple, direct, noble — trust it. Notice the conscious mind arguing back. That argument is the conditioned layer. The first answer is usually the true one.

  7. 07

Before opening your eyes, ask one final question: ‘Who do I want to become?’ Listen.

The subconscious does not argue. It answers. This practice trains the reflex to hear the first true thing and let it guide action.
