Background
The nervous system encodes the somatic signature of past affective peak states alongside their autobiographical memory. With training, the memory-scaffold can be discarded and the somatic signature recalled directly — then amplified by breath, facial micro-expression, and sustained attention. What begins as recall becomes induction. The body learns to release its own chemistry on command because the command has become legible to it.
Your body has been happy before. Really happy — the warm, full-bodied kind. Your body remembers. This practice reaches for that memory as a feeling, and asks the body to release it on command.
The Practice
- 01
Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Let your face soften.
- 02
Recall a moment when you were genuinely, physically happy. Pick one.
- 03
Do not replay the scene. Drop into the body of that moment. Where did warmth start? What did your shoulders do? Your breath?
- 04
Hold the felt-sense, not the story. Let the memory dissolve and keep only the sensation.
- 05
Ask, silently: 'Send it again.' Wait for it like a faucet warming up.
- 06
When a trace arrives, do not grab it. Let it expand. Smile — a real one.
- 07
Repeat the request. Each ask teaches the nervous system that this state is available.
- 08
Close by sitting in whatever warmth remains.
Happiness is also a chemistry your body knows how to make. The more often you ask deliberately, the shorter the distance between asking and arriving.
